Last week I went to the Chelsea Flower Show and saw a kite I’d like to make, one day. Although it is made of metal, it floated airily above the Chelsea crowds, looking as if it was just about to break free of its tethering post and sail off into the sky.

More relevant for the boats, I found a wonderful string stand. Garden twine in every colour you could imagine. In the end I chose seaside blues: string for big boats and cotton twine for the little ones.
